About

History

Originally launched within the Counseling Department as the CA DREAMers: Empowered and Educated, the Grads to Be (G2B) Program began at Fullerton College in 2015–2016 through student advocacy and collaboration across student services. Early efforts focused on academic advising, scholarship book cards, emergency funding, and hosting the college’s first AB540 conference in spring 2016, supported by student equity funding.

In 2019, G2B expanded through a district-wide Catalyst Fund grant from Immigrants Rising, supporting undocumented students across Fullerton College, Cypress College, and NOCE. This funding allowed G2B to grow its services, including legal aid, mental health support, mentorship, academic advising, and the Undocumented Student Success Week formerly known as Undocumented Student Week of Action.

In 2022, the Student Development and Engagement Department formed, housing the Cadena Cultural Center, Grads to Be Program, LGBTQIA2S+ Resource Program, and Umoja Community Program.

Mission

The Grads to Be Program supports undocumented students and students from mixed-status families by providing resources that promote academic success, personal well-being, and a welcoming, inclusive campus community.

Funding

In 2020–21, Assembly Bill 1645 required California community colleges, CSUs, and UCs to designate a Dreamer Resource Liaison to support undocumented students. This legislation encourages the development of Dream Resource Centers and expands access to financial aid, legal services, academic opportunities, and essential support services.
