Undocumented Student Action Week (USAW)
The Grads to Be program is celebrating the California Community Colleges’ annual Undocumented Student Action Week (USAW) event from October 14 – 18, 2024.
This year’s theme is “Education and Career UndocuDreams Made Possible.” The focus of the week-long event will be working towards building a strong ecosystem that breaks down silos and promotes a collaborative campus approach to ensure all our students can achieve their goals and dreams, regardless of their citizenship status. We hope to to provide support, resources and learning opportunities to our undocumented student population and districtwide community. In this event the campus community will connect with on- campus programs and off- campus community organizations that support undocumented students. Herbal Wisdom: Exploring Indigenous Health Practices

In this engaging event, participants will learn about the medicinal plants treasured by indigenous cultures across Turtle Island and the Caribbean. We’ll delve into the historical uses of these herbs, emphasizing their relevance today. These health practices are important to many communities especially to indigenous and immigrant communities facing health service barriers. A live demonstration will guide students in making their own indigenous medicine, reinforcing their connection to their ancestral roots, as they celebrate Indigenous People’s Day!

Author, Poet and Playwright Yosimar Reyes

Yosimar Reyes is a nationally-acclaimed poet, educator, performance artist and speaker. Born in Guerreo, Mexico, and raised in Eastside San Jose, Reyes explores the themes of migration and sexuality in his work. The Advocate named Reyes one of “13 LGBT Latinos Changing the World” and Remezcla included Reyes on their list of “10 Up And Coming Latinx Poets You Need To Know.”
